Hello! My name is Abi – adventurer extraordinaire and vagabond virtuoso.
My passion in life? Besides 4 hour long Cartoon Network marathons and finding the cold spot under the duvet, I’m all about exploring our beloved globe. I like nothing more than wandering down unknown paths and discovering what I find at the end. Sometimes I get a bit lost and sometimes I reach a dead end, but hey, I had a wild time getting there!
I gave up on a settled lifestyle back in 2011, when on a whim I booked a flight to Bangkok and I haven’t looked back since. I’ve been blogging since 2015 and maybe looked back once or twice but not really.
My intention for this blog is to share my stories with the world – my adventures, my successes and my mishaps. I want to give people an insight into what it’s like to be a clumsy girl trying to make her footprint in the sand, and if I can give out some advice and get a few laughs a long the way, all the better!
I grew up in sleepy town in the South East of England. The town was cosy and familiar but I’d always known I wanted to leave. As nice a place it was, there was no way this suburban life could possibly feed my hunger for adventure. At age 18, I packed my bags like a little British Dora the Explorer and headed to the bright lights of London.
I didn’t know anyone in the city but the thought of exploring my personally uncharted territory thrilled me. I had discovered the adrenaline of venturing into the unknown and I wasn’t about to stop there. My feet had started to itch and I soon needed to embark on a new adventure. I left for Thailand and my life changed.
I found what I was looking for – a nomadic lifestyle where every day is full of beauty and wonderful life-affirming experiences. I’ve met a plethora of amazing and life long friends. I’ve overcome personal challenges in the most magnificent of backdrops. I’ve ticked more things off my bucket list then I’ve had hot dinners (mainly because I spend all my money on flights and can’t afford hot dinners).
After 4 years of continuous travel, I started Abi and the World in 2015. It’s always been a project that I’ve wanted to work on but I simply never found the time. I once created a travel blog in 2011 when I embarked on my first round-the-world trip. I wrote one post before I left and then never touched it again. I was far too busy learning Kung Fu in Qufu or scuba diving in Koh Tao. I’m a firm believer in enjoying the moment and not spending too much time looking down a lens. This is probably why I have a GoPro that I’ve used once in two years.
I am now a bit older and wiser and can pick the moments I breathe every second of and the ones I can snap away at. After a short lived attempt at settling down that was subsequently followed by a particularly messy break up, I finally bit the bullet. I’m back on the road and this time you’re coming with me! I’m like the lead lady in a rom com who breaks up with a good for nothing guy and finds a new lease of life. And then goes backpacking. The difference between me and a rom com lead? My adventure isn’t going to stop.
